The first activity, a conceptual design challenge , builds explicit connections between general disciplinary concepts (habits of mind) and principles that guide practice . The learner is challenged to produce a product that demonstrates the ways in which concepts inform and blend with an authentic practice. The second activity, a design experience , engages learners in completing an instance of practice informed by disciplinary concepts and principles of practice. The third activity, design examples , asks learners to analyze and critique case studies informed by both the general disciplinary concepts and the principles that guide practice. In the fourth activity, situated design challenge , preservice teacher candidates develop a plan of practice, using their emerging knowledge to shape real-life situations.
